A Curtis barn was among 18 statewide to receive rehabilitation grants from the Heritage Barn Advisory Committee last month.
Mike and Heidi Peroni, owners of Boistfort Valley Farm, were awarded $25,531 through the program. The organic farm is listed in the Washington Heritage Barn Register.
Grants ranging from $2,800 to just over $52,000 were awarded to 18 barn owners in 15 counties; 16 of these grants will assist in the rehabilitation of barns on working farms.
Over 100 applications, seeking more than $2.1 million, were sent in to the HBAC, and more than $460,000 was awarded.
The Washington State Advisory Council on Historic Preservation designated nearly 300 barns as Washington State Heritage Barns within the first 10 months of the program, which started last year.
The next deadline for barn owners interested in nominating their barn to the Heritage Barn Register is April 30. For additional information contact State Historic Preservation Officer Allyson Brooks at (360) 586-3066.
The Parpala Farm in Pacific County and the Erickson Family Farm in Thurston County also received grants.
