Basic Cucumber Salad

Here's a basic cucumber salad recipe. I know that some of you will prefer sour cream instead of mayo, some will want to salt the cucumbers for 15 minutes prior to mixing the salad (so that it's less watery later), some will add a pinch of sugar. So I will add all these suggestions, and let you choose your own path.


  • 2 cucumbers, thinly sliced
  • 1/2 onion, thinly sliced
  • 1 large tomato, halved and sliced (optional)
  • 3 tablespoons mayonnaise
  • 1 tablespoon white vinegar
  • 1 Tbsp chopped fresh dill
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper

In a medium bowl, toss together the cucumbers, onion and tomato. Gently stir in the mayonnaise, vinegar, dill, salt and pepper until coated. Cover and refrigerate for at least 1 hour before serving.
